  • Why me?
I am a solutions focused therapist. There are two poles in therapy: those that plow ahead with little acknowledgement of their personal trauma, and those that wallow in their personal trauma and never move forward. I balance the two. I practice supportive reflection/active listening, but I also promote acting as if. If you want to be a runner, you just start running.
  • What is script consultation?
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with extensive experience treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, personality disorders, lifestyle challenges. I know what these issues look like. I can assist your production to ensure any depiction of mental illness on screen is accurate. I also have a master's degree in literature, so I know story structure, I've read Story and The Hero with a Thousand Faces. I know the three act structure, but you need it to believable. Too many depictions on screen are exaggerated and cartoonish. I can ensure your character is real and relevant.
  • What additional services are offered?
We also offer group services to assist your production in coping with on-set challenges. These include brief workshops on handling anger, exhaustion, breathing techniques, meditation, mindfulness, exposure-response prevention, overcoming fear, and emotion management.
  • Why hire a therapist for your production?
Ther are many reasons to have a therapist on set. We know actors and those in production can seek therapy independently, but depending on finances, this may be cost prohibitive. This is Los Angeles, and therapy is expensive. We can address the specific stress associated with production, the long shoot times, the taxing nature of a difficult role, the complexities of reality television participation. Having a therapist on set can ensure talent and production feel supported, safe, and understood. Lawsuits. There have been many high-profile legal contests that have emerged owing to talent feeling unsupported, dissatisfied, misinformed regarding their specific project. Our goal is to eliminate any post-production legal issues that may arise.
  • Why Reel Counseling?
The quick answer; I am based in Los Angeles. If you film here, I am here. I am licensed to provide therapy in Los Angeles. Know that each state has its own licensing requirements, so a company based elsewhere cannot legally provide therapy services if they are licensed in another state. I will be attaining licensure in other states soon, so I can travel and provide services for your specific shoots.
  • What does it cost?
We will work with your production to determine a fee scale based on size and number of individuals served. We can be available by retainer for the length of the production or for one day weekly services. Know that private practice rates average $250-$350an hour, and we will be competitive with this structure. We can also add on additional group services.
